This June we celebrated our 7th anniversary as the Evanston Print & Paper Shop with a move! We are now located at 3446 N. Albany in Chicago, Illinois. Getting all of our 20th century equipment situated has left us a little behind in updating our 21st century website and social media. We can be reached by phone at 773.791.1236, and as soon as the party is ready to go, we’ll be sending around the invitations. Our new home in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood is coming together nicely.
Eileen spent years teaching the youth of America, before fleeing to the kinder, gentler world of print and paper. She had been taking community bookmaking classes at Columbia College, and always wondered what was going on in that large and beautiful print studio. She soon found out in classes with the lovely and talented Stacey Stern of Steracle Press.
Vanessa studied graphic design in California, but just couldn’t stay away from those Midwest winters. She took her first printing class at The New York Center for Book Arts, but continued her studies right here also with Stacey Stern in Columbia College’s Community Classes. Vanessa also couldn’t’ stay away from her large family. Vanessa is a quintuplet! Really!
How We Started
According to one Celene Aubrey, of Hatch Show Print in Nashville, 5 minutes into Eileen’s first letterpress class Evanston Print & Paper Shop was born. That’s not quite how it went. Vanessa and Eileen were taking letterpress classes at the same time, and they decided that if there were a space like EP&P where they could print, they’d come, and they hoped others would, too.
