We are sorry to say that we will no longer be renting studio time.  Our insurance costs have almost tripled in the last seven years, and we cannot find a policy that will cover us letting people use our equipment.  We’ve enjoyed the people we have spent time here, but cannot afford the coverage it takes to provide this service.

Amos – Press 1

1 This Vandercook 4 was once the property of Detroit’s own Amos Kennedy.  (Want to learn more about Amos the printer?  They made a movie about him – Proceed and Be Bold! – http://www.proceedandbebold.com/)  Amos the press came to us from a basement in Berwyn, Illinois in pieces, but now is one of the regular work horse presses of our shop.

Cyril – Press 2

2 Cyril was originally owned by Sears right here in Chicago.  Catalogue pages were probably proofed on it.  Now it cranks out custom invitations, business getting business cards, and the occasional poetry broadside.  Cyril and Amos do the lion share of the work of Evanston Print and Paper.

Cuneo Press – Press 3

3 Early on we found a metal plaque on this press from the Cuneo Press.   It was their 1024th press – our second.  The Cuneo Press was one of Chicago’s largest print companies back when Chicago printing ruled the world.  We use it primarily for art prints and play, & we love that connection to the history of printing, and its potential as an art form.

Payment Policy
Payment is due at the time of your rental. SO, DON’T FORGET YOUR CHECKBOOK (or cash). Just like you couldn’t walk out of any other business with their goods without paying, you need to pay at the time you print. For rentals we only accept checks or cash, which must be tendered at the time of service.

Scheduling Time
Please check our scheduled rental hours before requesting time. Appointments are only made through the e-mail rentals@evanstonprint.net. Please allow 24 hours (regular business day hours) for us to respond, and be specific about:
what equipment, start time, end time

Billing begins at the start of that appointment time.

Cancellation Policy
If you cancel your appointment less than 24 hours ahead of your scheduled time, you will be charged for that time. We sometimes operate from a waiting list, and if we can fill your slot, we will not charge you, but if no one else claims it, you will need to pay for it.

Equipment Use
If you are renting, you are expected to work independently, and in a manner that will not damage our equipment. Ink left on the press will incur a $50 fee. No exceptions.

Who Can Join You?
Unfortunately, no one can join while you are renting our studio. Your appointment is for you and you alone. You may not bring friends, husbands, wives, significant others, clients, children, parents, best friends, or anyone else with you. While we would love to allow you to do this, but it is a  liability issue and safety hazzard.
